AHCA Minutes June

President's remarks

Bruce Cameron reminded all of the planned AHCA 4th of July picnic in Virginia Highlands Park. Details are available in the June Newsletter.

Mr. Cameron said the Crystal City long term plan is available on the list serve. He believes the plan should be expanded to address the impact on the area east of 395. The next meeting of the Crystal City planning board will be July 8. It will be open to all. Contact Mr. Cameron for additional information.

Mr. Cameron will schedule a presentation on the Virginia Highlands Park basketball courts for the July or August meeting.

Spray Park Design for Virginia Highlands Park

Christine Simpson from the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department described two concepts for the spray park. One would displace the current volleyball courts and the other would be south of the courts. Both concepts maintain existing trees and avoid impacts on the trees that would result from water and power installation.

Ms. Simpson estimated the cost to be about $550,000, which includes design, construction, and contingency.

An attendee asked if the spray park could be designed for use as a play area in the winter.
