AHCA Newsletter June 2009

OUR UPCOMING MONTHLY MEETING: WEDNESDAY June 10, 2009
6:45 p.m.
AURORA HILLS COMMUNITY CENTER

Guest Speakers:

Christine Simpson from the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department will give an update and answer questions on the Spray Ground effort for Virginia Highlands Park.

AHCA: 4th of July picnic in Virginia Highlands Park. For those that aren't out of town on vacation or who don't already have plans, we'll do a simple potluck picnic at southeast corner (in grass near playground) across from the community center parking area. We'll try to have some tables and ice cream as well. And we are working with park staff to see if we can hook a hose with a kid sprinkler to the restroom building. Let's say between 5-8pm, to leave time for people to go find fireworks viewing spots afterwards.

Crystal City Long Term Plan: The Long Range Planning Committee, a Committee of the County Planning Commission, will be taking up the Crystal City plan. Bruce Cameron and Mike Dowell will represent AHCA at these meetings which start Tuesday (June 9th) at 7:30pm. ARCA will have representatives to the process as well.

Neighborhood Improvement Efforts:
Missing Links: We expect another round in a month.
Traffic Calming: We expect ideas from staff for Joyce within1-2 months.

Parks: We have asked Kurt Louis, the Park Operations Manager for our area to come to our July or August meeting to talk about the concerns about the basketball courts in Virginia Highlands Park.

Schools: Jay Fisette is running for re-election to the County Board and James Lander is running for the School Board. Those that have an interest in seeing Wakefield rebuilt sooner rather than later should make a point of attending events these candidates will be holding to remind them of your concerns.

Bruce Cameron has been appointed to the Budget Committee of the APS for the next two years.
