Community Facilities Study

January 4, 2016 |

The County recently released a Community Facilities Study prepared by a committee appointed jointly by the County Board and the School Board. The report culiminates broad-based planning effort to build a consensus framework for assessing the community’s future funding, resource and facility needs.

Anyone interested in the challenges of funding and siting of parks, schools, community and recreation centers, fire stations, and affordable housing, among others, should take a look.

The report reviews the County’s challenges – increasing population, changing demographics, scarcity of land for public facilities, funding constraints, and strategic planning and community dialogue – and makes recommendations about how best to meet these needs. Recommendations include innovative land use, increased land acquisition, joint or shared use.

Also, the Civic Federation will be discussing the report at its meeting at 7:30 on January 5. The meeting is open to the public. Hazel Auditorium, Virginia Hospital Center, 1701 N. George Mason Drive
