Neighborhood Conservation Project (900 block of 21st St)

The AHCA is seeking funding for a proposed sidewalk improvement project for 21st St. S. between S. Ives and S. Joyce St. through the Neighborhood Conservation (NC) program. This project was chosen several years ago by the Civic Association and is now ready to begin the next phase of the process. A general interest survey will be circulated to property owners on the affected block to determine if there is still support for the project. Support from at least 60% of the property owners must be obtained in order to continue with the development of a proposed project design. This is a preliminary approval and details about width, trees, side of the street, etc. cannot be answered at this stage. If there is sufficient support, property owners will get a second bite at the apple after the County has developed and presented a concept design to affected neighbors (open to all Civic Association members) at a future concept design meeting. Once the concept design is complete, the County will prepare a final petition and circulate to affected owners on 21st St. In order to pass the final petition process, a minimum of 60% “Yes” votes must be attained. Please note that for this petition, each vote is weighted by the linear frontage that a property contains within the proposed project area. If it passes the final petition, the project will then be presented to the Neighborhood Conservation Advisory Committee (NCAC) for recommendation of funding to the County Board. Colleen Ference-Burke has graciously agreed to be the block captain for this project and will be conducting the initial petition later in the spring.
