There is an air quality monitoring station at the Aurora Hills Library. The station is called Aurora Hills Visitor Center, Northern Virginia. It monitors, measures and reports on five major pollutants. EPA establishes an AQI for six major air pollutants regulated by the Clean Air Act. Each of these pollutants has a national air quality standard set by EPA to protect public health. Our neighborhood sensor monitors all the the EPA AQI pollutants except lead.
- ground-level ozone
- particle pollution (also known as particulate matter, including PM2.5 and PM10)
- carbon monoxide
- sulfur dioxide
- nitrogen dioxide
Here is a link to the EPA page on the AQI pollutant maximum allowed levels. This link has additional detailed information on each pollutant, including health effects.
