Airplane Noise Virtual Community Conversation & Aircraft Noise Mitigation Study Kickoff!

[ 0 ] September 3, 2020 |

This virtual community kickoff meeting on Reagan National Airport airplane noise was held on August 17.  But if you missed it – or need a refresh on what was said – you can catch a recording of it on YouTube and find the presentation slides on the NOWGEN site:  https://f5b.9f0.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/DCA-Project-Kick-Off-2020.pdf.

The objectives of the community engagement are to: Provide an overview of the project and efforts to date; share key highlights from our baseline assessment; provide resources for getting additional information and tracking the project as things progress; and to provide and analyze an online engagement survey.  This survey questionnaire seeks community input regarding what is most fair in terms of flight procedure design philosophy.  The online engagement survey of the Aircraft Mitigation Study is now live and will be open until September 21st.

These Fairness and Procedure Design Philosophies were presented:

  • Maximize Time Over Water
  • Flight paths based on land-uses
  • How should we prioritize land-uses?
  • Flight paths based on population density
  • Flight paths should be consistent with historical conditions
  • Flight paths and noise exposure should be shared among all communities.
  • Combine/prioritize multiple philosophies?

When you complete the online survey, please tell them your opinion of these philosophies and let them know what important issues are missing.

Keep up with all study updates on Arlington County Aircraft Noise page or on the NOWGEN site. If you have any additional questions or concerns Email noise2020@arlingtonva.us.   Note: This study is NOT about helicopters; see this County website on Aircraft Noise.
