Route to the DCA BikeShare Station

[ 0 ] December 9, 2020 |

This is a description of the route to the DCA BikeShare station that does not involve riding in the airport traffic.  From the Crystal City Waterpark, it is about 0.8 miles. The BikeShare station is on the west side of the north parking garage (circled on the photo below).

This map shows the bike route from the Crystal City Waterpark to the BikeShare station at DCA. The locations marked on the map are discussed below.
The distance from the Waterpark to the BikeShare station is 0.8 miles.

Starting at Point A in the Crystal City Waterpark (18th and Crystal Drive), take the ramp down to the tunnel under the railroad tracks and get on the Crystal City Connector trail that goes under the GW Memorial Parkway and connects with the Mount Vernon bike trail.

The Crystal City Connector trail will go up a slight hill and curve to the right before intersecting the Mount Vernon Trail.  This is Point B on the map. The intersection is 0.3 miles from the Waterpark. Turn right at the intersection heading towards Alexandria.

Ride south for 0.3 miles until you see a trail off to the left.  Turn left (sign says Washington National Airport). This is Point C on the map.

The trail will enter a paved area used by the airport maintenance staff.  This is a low traffic area but be alert.

When you enter the paved area, follow the trail to the right and you will see a ramp leading down to a tunnel under the road.  The turns at the bottom are fairly tight so watch your speed. Note the brown sign that says “To Airport Terminal and Bicycle Parking”

Coming up the ramp on the other side of the road you will cross an entrance to the rental car service area (be aware) and the BikeShare station is right ahead.  This is Point D on the map.

The BikeShare station is between the parking garage and airport access road.
