Proposed changes to Residential Permit Parking (RPP)
Arlington has been reassessing the RPP program for several years and collected feedback this fall to its proposed changes. At a high level, these include:
- an increase in the fees for permits
- changes to the number and types of permits allowed per household, and
- the addition of 2-hour paid parking during restricted hours on streets currently covered by the RPP program.
The Arlington County Residential Permit Parking (RPP) Review page has more background, including a chart comparing the changes to the current program, a summary of the review process, and some answers to an October 2020 Q&A session.
AHCA Position
The proposed changes have been discussed at several county meetings and have come up for discussion at the November 2020 and January 2021 Aurora Highlands Civic Association meetings. While there was an initial approach to remain open to potential changes and there remains a range of opinions, members at the January meeting voted 26-12 to oppose all of the proposed changes.
