Managing Arlington’s Environmental, Energy, and Recycling Challenges: We’ll have Demetra McBride from the county’s Office of Sustainability and Environmental Management and Neil Seldman from the Waste to Wealth Initiative at the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) to talk about county and private initiatives to respond to climate change, manage stormwater, promote green building and energy efficiency, and deal with the nationwide recycling crisis.

The first set of development plans related to Amazon HQ2 have been submitted. These cover two buildings at Met Park. Look for this development to enter the county’s public review process in the next few months, with buildout in 3-4 years.

Embracing Arlington Arts founder Janet Kopenhaver will present on the possible Black Box theatre being planned for 22202.

Aurora Highlands and Crystal City Civic Associations sent the following letter to the County urging more action to address traffic issues related to the TNC lot between Eads and Route 1. Representatives from both Civic Associations have been participating in meetings with the County and MWAA, and while a number of improvements have been implemented, the most recent meeting suggested further improvements may be stalled.

A proposed change to the zoning ordinance would allow large signs up to 55 feet, up from 40 feet in the current ordinance. Signs would still require approval and various requirements on placement and visibility from residential zones. The ordinance would apply to “urban regional shopping centers”, which currently includes Pentagon City Fashion Centre and Ballston Quarter.
