He(art)s ❤️ at Virginia Highlands Park

“Social distancing pop-up art”
Pentagon City, Arlington, VA

Aurora Highlands Civic Association (AHCA) thanks the volunteers who made this art display possible. AHCA supports the use of our park’s open space and the need for social distancing for the safety of our community.

The temporary, impromptu art display at Virginia Highlands Park uses rainbow colors in heart symbols to honor the front-line workers and our community who continue to fight the pandemic. The hearts are placed at approximately 12ft apart allowing for people to sit and enjoy their own space while others can walk in between the hearts. Temporary, chalk-based paint was used to create the social distancing hearts painted on the ground.

Please continue to support our community and the Aurora Highlands Civic Association. We’ll do our best to make this a happy and healthy summer for everyone.

Social Distancing in Parks

Arlington’s open space is now open in to the public. However, facilities such as courts, playgrounds, dog parks, picnic shelters, and organized sports play are NOT allowed. Arlington Parks and Recreation Department sent out the following message asking the community’s help in maintaining social distancing. “We need the community’s help in practicing safety guidelines so we can keep our parks open, and to allow staff the necessary time to prepare to open even more facilities and programs, when it’s safe to do so,” said Parks & Recreation Director Jane Rudolph. “As long as the community stays safe, we can stay open.”

Safety First

Park visitors are asked to adhere to the physical distancing and small group guidelines – keep at least six feet of distance from others and groups should not exceed 10 people. Don’t use any closed park amenities. Face masks in public are recommended where proper distancing is not possible. Don’t use parks if you are sick or recently exposed to COVID-19.
